I, self & Nation

by Ahmed Salah

I self & nation
The 17th of November 2000 & self
My feet touched this land
Didn’t recognize the slang
Didn’t understand dem clan
& my mind just clicked
Here I don’t belong
Here I waznt born, here I don’t know how to deal with dem folks & I’m gone
Till I met this old man
Ironically his name waz sudan
Hiz vision waz waaaay beyond
Tho he waz blind & Hiz smile waz like the Nile
Floats from this side to this side
& he helped me to decide
He said : dear son The soil that u r walking on
Iz filled with your ancestors sweat tearz & bloodz
So whatever you throw on the floor
Will grow on their spirit shape or form
Let me explain
My nation fought against a lot of nationz some from within & the other were the united nation
Since we were born an offensive finger been pointed to our faces
Not knowing that 3 fingers been blaming dem back
So I replied
Dear old man I hated this land I didn’t expect I & this ain’t a lie that I would give ya my Eyez so you can see the light
Livin in dust smelling my lush of loving this nation to the lush
But he interrupted me saying
You can be my Eyez just take my handz & let’s walk outta this line
Enough scribbling the walls & let me walk tall & brag bout me bredren & me sistrens
They stopped sipping crystalz
They started drinkin the knowledge of
WE COME TOGETHER AZ ONE
